A torsion spring snapped and the door was down. Ron unwound the system safely, took off the broken spring and the old one with it, and put up a new matched set.
In Ron's words
We have a broken spring. Let's get that taken care of. First of all, we need to do it safe, so we're going to unwind the spring.
Springs are on. Tension is amazing. You can see two fingers lifting the entire garage door. Holds absolutely perfectly.

The problem
The homeowner's garage door was stuck after a torsion spring snapped. A broken spring system can still hold dangerous tension, so the first step was making it safe to work on.
What we did
- Unwound the remaining spring tension before touching anything else.
- Removed the broken spring and the old spring beside it.
- Installed a new matched pair and set the tension to the door's weight.
The result
The door is balanced again: on camera, two fingers lift the whole door and it holds in place.
Don't try this one yourself
Even with one spring broken, the system can still be under heavy tension. Unwinding it takes the right bars and a set order of steps. If your spring has snapped, leave the door closed and call.
